PAWS WagFest: June 20 at Battle Point Park
WagFest 2009 created a plethora of positive canine memories -- from dancing dogs to canine cops and everything in between. The event at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island drew around 250 people and close to 150 dogs in a celebration of all things canine. Thanks go out to all the registrants and teams who helped raise funds for PAWS' dog programs, as well as to all the sponsors, volunteers, vendors, demonstrators, and park visitors who took part in the event. Special thanks to Cara Leyshon of Healthy Pets Animal Hospital in Olympia for stepping in at the last minute to run the WagFest microchip clinic. Lots of pictures available by clicking here:

Kitten Underground Railroad
T hese are Harriet and Sojourner, two of 11 kittens that came to PAWS this weekend. Grant County Animal Outreach was faced with a tough situation. Their only kitten foster home faced legal action from neighbors for being over limit on animals, forcing all of their foster kittens to be returned to the already overcrowded shelter.
With no other options, all of the kittens faced euthanasia. Stepping up to the plate was a loose coalition of animal rescue agencies. From Moses Lake to Wenatchee, to Fife to Bremerton dozens of kittens were transported to th e waiting hands of new foster families from Animal Welfare agencies willing to lend a hand. Without this cooperation these kittens faced certain death, but they now have been spayed and vaccinated and are ready to find their forever homes through PAWS of Bainbridge and North Kitsap.
You can visit Sojourner and Harriet, or other kittens available for adoption at the Cat Adoption Center, 8820 Miller Road. (Click for hours and more information.)

We're working hard to make sure local families don't have to face that horrible prospect. Friends of PAWS are pitching in to support two programs that help neighbors and their pets who may be having a tough time with the tight economy.
