2010: Your Year for "Getting More Involved"
With new programs added last year, and more on the way in 2010, PAWS of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap anticipates needing 30-40 new volunteers to support its nonprofit work in support of pets and their people. Two introductory gatherings are a great way to get started, especially if your New Year's resolution is to "get more involved!"
If you're interested in becoming a cat adoption counselor or maybe offering your home to foster kitties, PAWS just might be a great fit for you. Other opportunities include working at various events, including the WagFest "dog walk and more" or helping before or during the annual “Spotlight on PAWS” dinner auction.

New positions also include working with the Pet Therapy Dog Program, Pet Food Bank Program or as an educational ambassador. And we often need drivers to drop things off, put up flyers, or even pick up donations. There IS a place for you on our team, and you'll have fun while helping out animals!
Learn more about current and future opportunities at one of two public meetings that will answer most questions. Wednesday, January 20, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Island Library Meeting Room; or Saturday, January 23, 10 - 11 a.m., Poulsbo Fire Department Meeting Room. Public is welcome, must be 14 years old to volunteer, and there will be refreshments!

Picture Your Pet 2009 a winner!
Thanks go out to Steve Vadset and the rest of the staff at Town and Country Market for hosting the annual Hot Dog Lunch and Mustard Tasting, in very chilly weather. Folks warmed up with complimentary hot dogs while glimpsing all the entries to this year's Picture Your Pet contest and voting for the "People's Choice" award.
Thank you, also, to the Bainbridge Camera Club for judging the contest, and to all the animal lovers who entered their photos. As you can see, this year's pictures were better than ever!

Caring for Pets and Neighbors in a Tight Economy
Can you imagine having to give up your pet because you can't afford to feed it, or can't afford the medicine or veterinary care it needs? We're working hard to make sure local families don't have to face that horrible prospect. Friends of PAWS are pitching in to support two programs that help neighbors and their pets who may be having a tough time with the tight economy.
